I facilitate growth in people and teams, by helping you move towards your desired outcome, creating an environment that fosters shared learning and collaboration that helps you become more effective and productive in what you do.
Have you been involved in group sessions to solve a problem and instead found that you disagree on what the problem is, how it affects you and what the solution is? Do you find different groups within the team are competing with each other and people are just looking to authority to solve the issue for them?
It doesn’t have to be that way. Imagine another scenario.
You participate in a group session where you are all working towards the same goal, your input has been heard and you’ve had the opportunity to hear others also. You come away from the session feeling empowered and everybody is moving forward together in the same direction. You feel this was an effective use of your, and others, time.
Then an external facilitator may be for you.
My philosophy and am I a fit for you?
Much of what I do when facilitating is based on bringing my coaching philosophy and approach to a session. To be objective, listen without judgement, encourage thinking and active participation from all. And to manage accountability; establish group ownership and ‘buy-in’ to what’s been decided, enabling the group to move forward.
What’s the Process?
My focus is on managing the group process and the outcome, the content I leave to the experts in the room. The content may change and situations may be contextual, but the process will follow:
- Designing and Planning the Group process. Underpinning this is understanding the desired outcome(s) from the session
- Managing the process to ensure expectations are met, ensuring effective participation and responsibilities assumed
- Managing progress and accountability; recording outputs, actions identified and the required follow up
In addition to best planning, a lot of the creativity happens on the day, to “dance in the moment”. Observe what is happening, what is working or not and to adapt appropriately to the dynamics within the group.
My work with Innovate UK and projects involves facilitation to ensure projects continue to move forward and remain on track to their desired outcome.
Understanding what the status is, agreeing the outcome, brainstorming ideas and prioritising those before agreeing next steps and actions required by when. Leading virtual teams and managing customer relationships at Intel involved bringing together key stakeholders, understanding their needs and objectives setting expectations and identifying areas of mutual benefit and engagement. Client work at GSK has involved facilitating coaching workshops for participants, enabling adoption of a coaching approach in the workplace.
