I’ve worked in a technology and innovation environment for 20 years and have seen the benefits of innovation delivered from new technology. Along the way I’ve found my passion for technology growing, not just the technology itself but as a means to an end, how it’s applied, what it can enable and what it can do for people…

Having a change management strategy becomes key to delivering the benefits you want.

I’ve brought transformation to people and organisations I’ve worked with by increasing adoption and usage of new technology.

From leading change deployments at customers to adopt new software (Google Apps for Work) and grow usage to initiatives to increasing the use of technology within the home, in healthcare and retail markets.

Growing the PC market through initiatives to enable PCs for the home and providing thought leadership and evangelising the role of technology to improve patient safety and care in healthcare and increase efficiency in retail.

I believe technology is important but is only one means to the end.

What is the end in itself and do your ‘customers’ know what that is and means to them, the “What’s In It For Me”. It takes differing levels of time and effort for people to change. We get used to doing things in a particular way and that is comfortable for us. We form habits, that to deliver sustainable change, we need to be motivated to change.

What are people’s / organisations attitude to change, what do they want to achieve from using this technology? Benefits I’ve seen include increased collaboration, transforming the way people work and increasing efficiency and saving money. These need to be understood (the ‘what and why’) and communicated. Internally within the project team and externally to the users of the technology.

Whatever the context, creating meaning and connection (the what’s in it for me) with the change supports adoption and provides momentum. My philosophy is simple in managing change…

Identify what is the desired outcome and how will we know you have that, what are the measures of success.
We can then determine the how and what level of support from the organisation is required, from all levels
Identify the appropriate messages and channels to communicate and what support users need to adopt the new technology.
